Atlanta Chapter of The National Latina Business Women Association Announces New Board of Directors And Welcomes New Members
The mission of the National Latina Business Women Association (NLBWA) is to promote, develop, and support the rapid growth of Latina business owners and professionals. The new Atlanta chapter is gathering momentum under the dynamic leadership of Lily Z. Winsaft, its first president. The chapter will host a reception on December 4, 2007, at the law offices of Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell, LLP, in Midtown Atlanta, to introduce its Board of Directors and to welcome new members. The organization delivers programs focusing on business development, networking, and mentoring services for Latinas in the Atlanta business community.
Atlanta, Georgia – November 29, 2007 - In September 2007, a Small Business Administration report based on the Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics was released comparing male and female entrepreneurs. The study indicated that the social norms about the role of women in society, the shortage of female role models, and the greater household burdens faced by women created more start-up problems for female entrepreneurs, and that those problems were of greater magnitude than those experienced by their male counterparts. Latinas face even greater challenges than other ethnic females due to the current political climate, societal bias and limited support services. Despite these challenges, 40% of new Hispanic small business start-ups were female entrepreneurs.
Since 1993, the NLBWA has been aggregating resources to nurture this critical and under- represented market. “The number of Latina success stories and role models is on the rise. The NLBWA provides a forum for these powerful women to share their knowledge and inspiration to enable and empower other Latina entrepreneurs to create their own successes in the business world. It is clear that Hispanic women entrepreneurs are making a strong impact, as evidenced by the fact that they now comprise 31% of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors,” said President Winsaft.
Ms. Winsaft has been involved with Hispanic organizations such as ACOLPA (the Association of Colombian Professionals in Atlanta), where she served as President of the Board for three years; GHNet (the Georgia Hispanic Network), where she was an active Board Director; the Mexican American Chamber of Commerce; the Latin American Association; the National Multicultural Board of the Women’s Leadership Exchange; and she actively supports and volunteers at numerous other organizations. Ms. Winsaft is a popular keynote speaker, seminar leader, and founder of Aldebaran Associates, an executive recruiting firm.
